METRO Group is one of the largest and most international retailing companies operating in 32 countries around the world. One of the major economies, playing a particular role among the aspiring Eastern European markets is Russia. Therefore it is one of the main focuses of the expansion strategy pursued by METRO Group.

In Russia METRO Group has been present with its sales divisions since 2001. The corporate headquarters of METRO Group Russia is located in Moscow.

The group is a leader in the trade sector in Russia managing already more than 70 large sales area outlets. METRO Group Russia in 2007 employed approx. 13,500 people.

Now there are 48 stores in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yaroslavl, Kazan, Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Samara, Krasnodar, Nizhniy Novgorod, Ekaterinburg, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Ryazan, Tula, Tyumen, Ulyanovsk,  Chelyabinsk, Stavropol, Saratov, Perm, Orenburg, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Naberezhnye chelny, Ufa, Krasnoyarsk, Novokuznetsk, Togliatti, Pensa, Astrakhan, Tver, Kaluga, Kursk, Ivanovo.

Another METRO Group sales brand Real Hypermarkets opened 12 stores in Moscow, Togliatti, Saint Petersburg, Lipezk, Yaroslavl, Nizhniy Novgorod, Volgograd, Saratov and Kazan.

Media Markt has entered the Russian market in 2006 and has opened 14 stores in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Samara and Krasnodar.
